Syria Recognises Independence of Abkhazia

The Syrian Arab Republic has recognised independence of Abkhazia.

According to the Abkhaz Foreign Ministry, Sukhum and Damascus “agreed on mutual recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries at the level of embassies, which reflects their common aspirations for developing relations in all areas.”

The Syrian Foreign Ministry confirmed the reports in a statement as well, saying it decided to exchange recognition with the two entities and establish diplomatic relations at the level of embassies.
