In Moscow Abkhaz side submitted its description of border

SUKHUM -- A meeting of the bilateral Commission on Delimitation and Demarcation of the State Border between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Abkhazia has taken place in Moscow today.

The head of the Abkhaz delegation, a MP Valery Kvarchia said on the phone from Moscow, the Abkhaz side had submitted its version of description of the border and stated its position. “The Russian side will study our materials and will lay its suggestions tomorrow. On the whole the meeting was fruitful and constructive”, Kvarchia said.

Members of the Abkhaz delegation are MPs Valery Bganba and Garik Samanba, the Chairman of the State Committee on Ecology and Nature Management Roman Dbar, as well as representatives of the Presidential Executive Office, the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia, and the Department on Geodesy and Cartography.

The Abkhaz commission has prepared various documents, archival materials, including cartographical. It is a question of demarcation of northern and northwest sectors of borders of Abkhazia.

On May 3, 2010 the Parliament of Abkhazia passed the law “About the State Border of the Republic of Abkhazia”.

Part 1 of article 2 of the law says that “the State Border of the Republic of Abkhazia untill its international legal recognition is defined: along the land border with the Russian Federation – along the border of the Abkhazian ASSR, as determined by legislative acts of the former USSR...”.
