The sixth volume of the collected works of the Abkhaz writer D.I. Gulia, devoted to the history of his native land. Gulia was the first historian of his people; in the 1920s he tried to collect all known information about the past of Abkhazia, publishing them in his book “History of Abkhazia.” Gulia himself hoped that his work would become “the first stone thrown at the tranquil surface of academic indifference and inspire new scholars to work on the history of the cultures and nations of the Caucasus.”

The book is of value for its abundance of factual information and ethnogenetic, linguistic, and folklore material.
