On the 29th of July Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia met the KVN team “Narty from Abkhazia”. The major topic of discussion was the improper activity of the Latvian Embassy in Russia. As it turned out, KVN team “Narty from Abkhazia” received visa denial based on the fictitious charges such as providing false documentation. Abkhazian team is a multiple winner of the KVN game in Jurmala and has similar visas stamped at these passports.

The Minister expressed his indignation to the actions of the Latvian leadership. Abkhazia annually receives from the European impoverished country more than thousand seasonal workers who send money to their families in Latvia every month. This situation is nothing but a political farce: it is not the first time when Latvian authorities openly act against Abkhazia based on the orders of the Georgian leadership.

“It is hard to find a rational explanation for the frequent hostile activity of the Latvian leadership. Abkhazian history does not know any events that could create such a negative attitude towards Abkhazia”, - said the Minister.

Visa denial is a deliberate restriction of cultural cooperation and completely contradicts the EU strategy “engagement without recognition”.
According to the Minister, further cooperation with the European institutions promoting this strategy will be reviewed.
