Gudauta Hospital

SUKHUM -- Over the past day in Abkhazia eight people have been tested for coronavirus, all with negative results.

The patient who was diagnosed with coronavirus on 8 April has been discharged from the Gudauta hospital, according to the Operational Headquarters for Protecting the Population from COVID-19.

“The patient is already at home,” they noted at the Headquarters.

One of the first patients hospitalised on 6 April being sick with coronavirus is still under medical supervision. He has already twice undergone repeated testing for the disease, both times with the negative results.

The condition of the third patient, a female born in 1925, lately hospitalised in the Gudauta Central District Hospital, is stable, being of moderate severity. The woman was diagnosed on 11 April, at which time she refused to be hospitalised, receiving treatment in self-isolation.

Later, the patient's condition worsened and she was transferred to hospital, where she is receiving specialised therapy according to the approved treatment-standard for COVID-19.

The first case of coronavirus-infection in Abkhazia was recorded in a resident of Gagra upon return from Moscow. He was hospitalised on 6 April; the next day the diagnosis was confirmed. On 8 April, his wife was also taken to Gudauta Hospital with a positive test-result for COVID-19.

On 11 April, a third case of coronavirus-infection was recorded in an elderly woman who had been in contact with the first two infected persons. The woman remained in self-isolation until 20 April 20, refusing hospitalisation.
