Abkhazia Expands Housing Support for Repatriates
Three Residential Buildings Completed for Repatriates in Abkhazia
SUKHUM / AQW'A — Over the past five years, 72 families of repatriates from Syria, Turkey, Jordan, and the North Caucasus have been provided with housing in Abkhazia, according to information from the State Committee for Repatriation.
During this period, three multi-storey residential buildings were constructed specifically for repatriates. Among those who received housing are 24 families of participants in the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia (the Georgian–Abkhazian War of 1992–1993), who were handed the keys to their new apartments in 2025.
In addition to repatriates, several of the most socially vulnerable families are provided with housing each year. At present, around 600 families remain on the waiting list. Until permanent housing is allocated, rental costs for these families continue to be covered by the Repatriation Fund.

The potential integration of the State Committee for Repatriation’s housing programme with the national “Housing” programme is expected to yield positive results. A model in which newly constructed housing is allocated on a 50–50 basis between repatriates and indigenous residents is viewed as one of the most effective and balanced approaches to addressing long-term housing needs.
