Abkhazia Seeks to Expand Diplomatic Ties with African States, Says Bartsits
Abkhazia’s Foreign Minister, Oleg Bartsits, said the republic is expanding diplomatic outreach to Africa.
SUKHUM / AQW'A — Abkhazia is actively pursuing contacts with a number of African countries with a view to establishing diplomatic relations, the republic’s Foreign Minister, Oleg Bartsits, has said.
Speaking at a press conference hosted by Sputnik South Ossetia, Mr Bartsits stated that President Badrа Gunba had tasked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with broadening the circle of allied and friendly states.
“The President of the Republic of Abkhazia has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work on identifying steps that will enable us to expand the range of our allied and friendly countries. Naturally, we are making very serious efforts in this direction with the support of our Russian colleagues,” he said.
Mr Bartsits also identified the countries of South-East Asia and Latin America as important regions in terms of the potential for mutual recognition of sovereignty.
A delegation from Abkhazia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Mr Bartsits, is currently on a working visit to South Ossetia. During the visit, meetings were held with President Alan Gagloev, Acting Foreign Minister Akhсар Dzhioev, and Speaker of Parliament Alan Margiev.
