SUKHUM / AQW'A  ― Memorial events are set to take place on March 15-16, marking the 30th anniversary of the March offensive operation during the 1992-1993 Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia.

On March 15 at 4:00 pm, a photo exhibition showcasing the fallen soldiers who participated in the March operation to liberate Sukhum will commence at the Vladislav Ardzinba State Museum of Military Glory. In addition, a memorial evening will take place at the museum, featuring speeches from participants of the events 30 years ago and invited guests. Furthermore, a documentary film will be screened during the event.

At 6:00 pm on the same day, military photojournalist Vitaly Ketsba's photo exhibition will be displayed at the Samson Chanba Abkhaz State Theater, and the Abkhazian State Choir will perform in the stained glass hall.

At 7:00 pm, the play "Gumista Ballad," based on Anzor Mukba's play, will be performed at the Samson Chanba Abkhaz State Theater. The production will be directed by Madina Argun.

On March 15, 1993 formations of the Abkhaz army crossed the Gumista river and captured strategically important heights near Sukhum. During the March battle for the capital of Abkhazia, 222 fighters of the Abkhaz Army perished, several hundred people were injured and 23 people were missing.

On March 16 at 10:00 am, a ceremony to lay flowers at the Park of Glory Memorial, in remembrance of those who fell during the 1992-1993 Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia, will commence.

At 4:00 pm on the same day, a memorial event will start at the Gumista Bridge.

At 5:00 pm, A flower-laying ceremony will be held at the Memorial to the first president of the Republic of Abkhazia, Vladislav Ardzinba, in the village of Eshera. Candles will be lit in memory of those who died in the March offensive.

The Ministry of Culture, the Administration of the Capital, the Administration of Culture, Education, Youth, and Sports Affairs of the Sukhum Administration, and the Sukhum Higher Combined Arms Command School are organising the memorial events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the March offensive operation.
