The country’s main Christmas tree is set up in Abkhazia’s capital

SUKHUM (Sputnik) -- The country’s main Christmas tree is set up in Abkhazia’s capital. It is located in the central park of the capital, opposite the city’s Administration Building. Management for advertising, information and registration at the Sukhum City Administration was involved in the installation and decoration of the Christmas tree.

"When decorating our Christmas tree we kept the colour-scheme of the Abkhazian flag: red podium, toys and garlands of bright colours, and the spruce itself is, of course, green," said Sputnik’s head of management for advertising, information and registration at the Sukhum City Administration, Astanda Gitsba.

The artificial spruce extends to 18 meters. The tree is crowned with a meter star. Around it will be set grids of light and the New-Year sculptures. In the first hours of the New Year there will be a presentation of festive entertainment around the country’s main Christmas tree.

New-Year Christmas trees will also be installed in the New District (Novyj Raion) and the old part of the capital. Over coming days it is planned to festoon coloured lights in the streets of the city. "We shall try to dip our city as deeply as possible in an atmosphere of magic," Gitsba said.
