German Ardzeniya Wins Gold Medal at the BRICS Games in Kazan
SUKHUM / AQW'A ― Boxer German Ardzeniya has won Abkhazia’s first gold medal at the BRICS Games in Kazan.
Competing in the 60-kilogram weight category, Ardzeniya triumphed over his opponent from Uzbekistan in the tournament's final.
Reflecting on his victory, the boxer expressed immense joy and pride in representing his republic under its flag. During the award ceremony, German Ardzeniya was presented with a gold medal at the BRICS Games as the anthem of the Republic of Abkhazia played.
"I feel immense joy and pride representing my republic, Abkhazia, under its national flag. This is the first time our country has been invited to such a significant sporting event, and I am incredibly proud to have won the gold. The fight was extremely tough, but I gathered all my physical and mental strength to secure this victory," Ardzeniya said after the match.
The BRICS Games are being held from 12 to 24 June in Kazan, with around 5,000 athletes from over 90 countries participating and competing for 387 sets of medals.
Abkhazia's team at the BRICS Games has also secured one silver and four bronze medals, in addition to Ardzeniya's gold.
