Young Writer Ardashesh Ovsepyan's Latest Book Presented at Sukhum Library Event
SUKHUM / AQW'A ― A presentation of the book "Hooligans from Mukhusskaya Road" (Хулиганы с Мухусской дороги) by young writer Ardashes Ovsepian was held at the Central Library of Sukhum.
The author portrays the life of a resident of Sukhum who, after the Georgian-Abkhazian war, experienced both the joy of peace and many difficulties. Despite this, people believed that their lives would improve.
The events of the story take place in Mukhus in 1995, and the main characters are three friends: Alias, Inal, and Eric. Their fathers died during the war. The book describes the problems the boys faced and the actions they took to solve them, including fighting drug addiction.
Ardashes Ovsepian, born in Sukhum in 1990, graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Abkhazian State University, and is a former deputy of the Sukhum City Assembly. He currently works for a mobile phone company. "Hooligans from Mukhusskaya Road" is his third book, following a collection of short stories published in 2015 and "The Adventures of Sharakh" in 2018.
During the presentation, the director of the Central Library of Sukhum, Tsinuli Nanba, noted that the young writer grew up within the library's walls, as his mother, Seda Ovsepian, works there.
The book presentation was attended by Lasha Ashuba, a speaker of the Abkhazian Parliament, deputies, and representatives of the public. The evening's host, journalist Lana Abshilava, noted that each person present might find something relatable in the book.
Ardashes Ovsepian explained that he aimed to convey the atmosphere of the time and compare it to the present day. He wanted to show the life of Sukhumi residents of that time, the problems faced by young people, and their daily lives.
"When ceilings leaked, and people traveled to villages to get bread, there were times when there was no electricity for not just two hours but several weeks. A new generation has grown up since then, and if you compare a boy from that time and the values of that time to today, even though it has been twenty years, many things will be different. As I am not a professional writer and do all of this as a hobby, I wanted to capture our time on a sheet of paper and give it a new life," the author explained.
