Cherim Nakhushev Bestowed with the Prestigious Title of 'Honoured Artist of the Republic of Abkhazia'

SUKHUM / AQW'A —  The acclaimed singer from Kabardino-Balkaria, Cherim Nakhushev, and the "Kabardinka" ensemble graced the stage of the Abkhazian State Philharmonic with their riveting performances on Tuesday, June 20th. Marking this exceptional occasion, Nakhushev was honoured with the esteemed title of "Honoured Artist of the Republic of Abkhazia."

As per the decree signed by President Aslan Bzhania of Abkhazia, the distinction was conferred upon Nakhushev in recognition of his significant contributions towards the cultivation and popularisation of the musical traditions of the North Caucasus people.

The decree was publicly read out by Dinara Smyr, the Deputy Minister of Culture of Abkhazia. She warmly noted that even though it was Nakhushev's maiden visit to the Republic, his music had already resonated with the local inhabitants, who hold the artist in high regard and have developed a deep affection for his artistry.

Nakhushev, visibly moved by the recognition, expressed his profound gratitude: "This accolade is a great honour for me. I pledge to continue my commitment to uphold this prestigious title. It's my heartfelt hope that our interactions evolve into a tradition of friendship and mutual respect, fostering an enduring bond between us."

In addition to the concert, Cherim Nakhushev held a meeting with the Vice President of Abkhazia, Badra Gunba. Nakhushev thanked the leadership for their support in organising the concert, noting the pleasant coincidence of his 30-year career aligning with the 30th anniversary of Victory Day in Abkhazia. The artist also shared that the renowned Circassian dance ensemble "Kabardinka" would be participating in the concert.

Vice President Gunba informed Nakhushev that President Bzhania had instructed to provide all necessary assistance for the planned event. “We are aware that the leadership of Kabardino-Balkar Republic holds this event in high regard and approaches it with utmost care. I want to assure you that we are also ready to contribute to this concert,” stated Gunba. As a token of appreciation, Vice President Badra Gunba presented a commemorative coin bearing the image of Fazil Iskander, a revered Abkhazian writer and social figure, to Nakhushev at the conclusion of their meeting. The ceremony was marked by the presence of Daur Kove, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Abkhazia, who expressed his admiration for Nakhushev's work and his contributions to the promotion of North Caucasus music.

Cherim Nakhushev is celebrated across the North Caucasus as a distinguished performer of ethnic and popular music. His repertoire is expansive, including songs in his native Circassian language, spanning both the Eastern and Western dialects, along with performances in Russian and Ossetian. Nakhushev is also recognised as an Honoured Artist in Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, Adygea, Ingushetia, and South Ossetia.
