ISTANBUL / TÜRKİYE — The Federation of Abkhaz Associations in Türkiye (ABHAZFED) has released a statement regarding the recent protests in Abkhazia. Türkiye, as Abkhazia's second-largest trade partner, also hosts the world's largest Abkhaz diaspora, with an estimated population of around 500,000.

The statement reads:

"We are greatly relieved that the investment law protests in Abkhazia today concluded without any harm to citizens and that this dirty oligarchic scheme, which sought to mortgage the future of Abkhazia, was halted by the will of the people.

The democratic stance and unique resistance displayed by the Abkhaz people against those who have, in recent times, made disregarding the public will a principle of governance, on critical matters such as the Pitsunda Agreement and the Apartment Bill, will serve as an inspiration to all honourable peoples of the world.

We extend our gratitude to the politicians, civil society organisations, media outlets, members of parliament, community leaders, and all patriotic compatriots, young and old, men and women, who have defended our Abkhazia and its future, risking everything they have despite the challenging circumstances.

We hope that the difficulties we have faced will be the last obstacles in our democratic journey and that the current situation in Abkhazia will soon lead to a solution that meets the expectations of our people.

As the administration of the Federation of Abkhaz Associations in Türkiye, we reaffirm our unconditional support for our people in every circumstance concerning Abkhazia and our future. We will continue to stand by their side and adopt a stance that prioritises their expectations.
