Ardzinba to Zourabichvili: "Abkhazia Needs No Solidarity from Georgia"
SUKHUM / AQW’A — Adgur Ardzinba has issued a strong response to Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili’s remarks, reiterating Abkhazia’s sovereignty and rejecting any claims of anti-Russian sentiment within the ongoing political situation in Abkhazia.
Below is his full statement:
"I would like to remind the President of Georgia, who, as usual, bases her judgments and evaluations on national mythology rather than reality and common sense, that the Republic of Abkhazia is a free country. We independently determine our destiny, paths of development, and national interests.
The people of Abkhazia are entirely united on the fundamental principles of our Constitution, which declares that the Republic of Abkhazia is a sovereign state, historically established through the people's right to self-determination.
In this context, it remains unclear with whom and on what grounds Madam Zourabichvili expresses solidarity. Clearly, we have vastly different views not only on the present and future of our homeland but also on life, politics, and, quite likely, morality as a whole.
We also wish to reiterate that our actions do not have an anti-Russian agenda. Any claims to the contrary, regardless of their source, are 100% false and provocative. Our commitment to alliance and strategic partnership with Russia remains steadfast, as do the fraternal relations and mutual support between our peoples.
The Abkhaz opposition is engaged in domestic political struggles solely in the interests of Abkhazia's multiethnic population. As for whose interests Salome Zourabichvili represents, we neither know nor, frankly, care much.
We have significant work ahead to restore order in our own land, and the solidarity of political figures from beyond the Ingur River is certainly not required for this purpose."
