MFA Abkhazia expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the earthquake in Turkey and Syria
SUKHUM / AQW'A -- The Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia conveyed its condolences to the families of the victims of the earthquake in Turkey, as well as to the large Abkhaz community residing in the country and to all Turkish people.
"In the Republic of Abkhazia, the news of the earthquake in the southeastern provinces of Turkey, which resulted in numerous casualties and large-scale destruction, was received with deep sorrow and empathy," Minister Inal Ardzinba said in a statement.

The Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Abkhazia conveyed another message of condolences to the Foreign Ministry and the Affairs of Compatriots Abroad of the Syrian Arab Republic, in light of the loss of life and widespread destruction caused by a powerful earthquake in northern Syria.
The note specifically states:
"The Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Abkhazia extends its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and the entire Syrian brotherhood, wishes a speedy recovery to the injured, and hopes for a swift resolution of the aftermath of this tragedy, leading to the return of normalcy in the affected regions."
The recent earthquake in Turkey's southern province of Kahramanmaras claimed the life of a representative of the Abkhaz diaspora. The quake, measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale, struck at 04:17 and was followed by over 30 aftershocks. The latest reports indicate that the disaster claimed more than 1,000 lives and left 5,385 people injured.
The seismic activity also resulted in widespread destruction in various regions of Syria, where over 300 people lost their lives. The tremors were also felt in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
