SUKHUM / AQW’A — Badra Gunba has been elected as the new President of Abkhazia, securing 54.73% of the vote, according to preliminary results announced by the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Abkhazia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his congratulations to Gunba, with an official message published on the Kremlin’s website. In his message, Putin highlighted that Gunba’s victory, achieved in a democratic electoral process, reflects the support of the Abkhazian people for his vision of maintaining domestic political stability and advancing the country’s socio-economic development.

Gunba’s Inauguration Set for Next Month
Gunba will officially assume office 30 days after the Central Election Commission (CEC) confirms the final election results. The official results are expected to be announced on 3 March.

The inauguration ceremony will be attended by judges of the Constitutional Court and members of the People's Assembly.
During the ceremony, the newly elected president will take an oath on the Abkhazian Constitution and receive the traditional symbols of presidential authority, including the standard, seal, sabre, and the ceremonial staff known as the alabasha.
