Abkhazia’s Presidential Elections Head to a Runoff – Second Round Set for 1 March

Preliminary results show Badra Gunba with 46.41% and Adgur Ardzinba with 36.91% of the vote.
SUKHUM / AQW’A — The Chairman of Abkhazia’s Central Election Commission (CEC), Dmitry Marshan, has officially confirmed that a second round of the presidential elections will take place after no candidate secured the required majority in the first round.
According to official results, Badra Gunba received 46.38% of the votes, while Adgur Ardzinba secured 36.92%. As neither candidate achieved more than 50% + 1 vote, they will face off in a second-round runoff.
The second round of voting is scheduled to take place by 1 March, in accordance with Abkhazia’s electoral laws.
Official Results of the Presidential Elections
With a voter turnout of 69.13%, a total of 91,386 ballots were cast.
The final vote distribution among the candidates is as follows:
- Adgur Ardzinba – 36,476 votes (36.92%)
- Robert Arshba – 7,434 votes (7.53%)
- Oleg Bartsits – 3,988 votes (4.04%)
- Badra Gunba – 45,817 votes (46.38%)
- Adgur Khurkhumal – 896 votes (0.91%)
Additionally, 1,313 ballots were cast 'Against All' candidates, while 2,684 ballots were deemed invalid.
Under Abkhazia’s electoral law, a candidate can only win the second round if they receive more votes than both their opponent and the combined total of votes cast for the "Against All Candidates" option.
