Abkhazia Proposes Resumption of Meetings in the IPRM Format to Tbilisi
SUKHUM / AQW'A — Abkhazia has expressed its readiness to resume activities under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM). They have prepared a set of proposals to present to the co-chairs of the Geneva Discussions during their visit to Abkhazia, stated Irakli Tuzhba, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia.
"Abkhazia has prepared a new set of proposals aimed at reviving the IPRM format. I hope that our current proposals will receive an appropriate response from Georgia, and we can begin working in this framework," Tuzhba noted.
According to Tuzhba, Abkhazia has been actively working towards the revival of this format for several years.
"We believe that this is an essential format, a part of the Geneva process, also known as the local security mechanism. In 2021, we made official proposals, which we passed on to our Georgian counterparts through the UN representatives," Tuzhba said.
He expressed regret that two years have passed, and the Georgian side has shown no activity or desire to resume the IPRM.
As reported by "Nuzhnaya Gazeta", the Abkhazian Foreign Ministry's website has not published the proposal package. "If this isn't classified information, it should be made available to the general public," the publication points out.
Georgian authorities have not commented on Abkhazia's statement regarding the resumption of meetings in the IPRM format.
Meetings in Gal, which involve the Abkhazian side, Georgia, Russia, the EU, and the UN, have not been held since 2018.
