Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia

From 10 to 15 February 2015 was held a working visit of the Abkhazian delegation composed of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia V.A. Chirikba, representative of the initiative group to promote the interests of the Republic of Abkhazia in Turkey and Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Abkhazia in the Turkish Republic Inar Gitsba to the capital of the Republic of Turkey Ankara. During the visit were held meetings of humanitarian, economic and political nature. This caused a flurry of indignation from the Georgian officials.

The reason of Tbilisi's anger is obvious - visit of the Minister violates Georgia's plans for maximum isolation of Abkhazia from contact with the outside world. Statements of Georgian officials reflect their vision of relations with Abkhazia as forming a fence of barbed wire around the last.

Against the background of the planned for March 31 round of the Geneva discussions, hysteria that arose in the Georgian media, is a vivid testimony of the categorical unwillingness of the Georgian side to put up with the existing political realities. It is obvious that the policy of Georgia against Abkhazia has not changed and is still based on outdated stereotypes.

The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia to Turkey was the result of a deliberate strategy of the Abkhazian Foreign Ministry aimed at further alignment of cooperation with neighboring countries. The Republic of Abkhazia will continue to decide itself with whom and when Abkhaz officials will hold their meeting.
