A Conference Dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the State Committee for Repatriation Held in Sukhum
SUKHUM / AQW'A ― A scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the founding of the State Committee of Abkhazia for Repatriation was held.
Vadim Kharazia, the chairman of the State Committee, stressed that the organisation was created by the first president of Abkhazia, Vladislav Ardzinba, with the aim of uniting the Abkhaz diaspora, which is represented in 50 countries around the world.
Delegations from Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, and the North Caucasus participated in the events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the State Committee for Repatriation.
Kharazia noted that the State Committee for Repatriation was established during the war of liberation in Abkhazia. Vladislav Ardzinba made a wise decision to create a State Committee that aimed to build the state and facilitate its development after the victory in the Patriotic War of 1992-1993.
On March 23, 1993, the State Committee for Repatriation was founded with the objective of enhancing and fostering relationships between Abkhazia and the Abkhaz diaspora residing abroad.
The conference discussed various issues related to the return of the Abkhaz diaspora to their historical homeland, strengthening ties between Abkhazia and the descendants of mukhadzhirs (exiles) living in different countries worldwide, and conducting scientific expeditions in these states.
On March 23, the day of the establishment of the State Committee for Repatriation, a gala evening will be held at the Abkhaz Drama Theatre named after Samson Chanba.
The conference was organized by the Abkhaz Institute for Humanitarian Research named after Dmitry Gulia and the Abkhaz State Committee for Repatriation.
The State Committee for Repatriation was established on March 23, 1993, to strengthen and develop relations between Abkhazia and the Abkhaz diaspora abroad. Over the years, the committee was chaired by Nugzar Ashuba, Fenya Avidzba, Givi Dopua, Apollon Shinkuba, Anzor Mukba, Zurab Adleiba, Khrips Dzhopua, Vadim Kharazia, and Beslan Dbar. Currently, Vadim Kharazia is the chairman of the State Committee.
