SUKHUM / AQW'A — The Gagra district has established an operational hotline to manage disaster relief efforts and provide assistance to those affected by the recent severe weather events. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Abkhazia has announced that the Republican Highway in the district is now open to traffic.

Authorities are maintaining ongoing road clearance operations across the city. In Gagra's city centre, a detour has been implemented around the local market to facilitate the use of special road cleaning equipment.

However, vehicle movement between the 10th and 12th kilometre points towards Ritsa remains restricted. Preliminary reports from the Ministry of Emergency Situations indicate that no evacuation of residents was necessary, and there have been no recorded injuries. Work to mitigate the aftermath of the severe rainstorm continues, with the overall extent of the crisis yet to be fully assessed.

Complications with Electricity Restoration

Regional energy provider "Chernomorenergo" has stated that predicting a timeline for electricity restoration in the Gagra district is currently impossible, as the area's transformers have been overwhelmed by floodwaters.

The press service of the organization emphasized that not only is it challenging to establish a restoration timeline, but the full extent of the damage remains undetermined.

The heavy rains that battered the Gagra district on Sunday, July 9, resulted in substantial flooding of private homes and significant disruption to highway traffic.
