Bagapsh to be nominated president candidate in Abkhazia
SUKHUM (Itar-Tass) -- The pro-government United Abkhazia Party will hold a regular congress in Sukhum on Tuesday. Abkhazian President Sergei Bagapsh is going to take part in its work, Kristian Bzhania, official representative of the president for contacts with the mass media, told Itar-Tass. “The congress is expected to nominate Bagapsh to run for the second presidential term,” Bzhania said.
The Central Electoral commission registered on Tuesday the Abkhazian Forum of National Unity Party, so that it could nominate its presidential candidate. Previously the political council of that opposition party supported the initiative group, which suggested the nomination of Raul Khadzhimba as presidential candidate.
The nomination of presidential candidates began on October 13 and will end on November 2.
Only four political parties in Abkhazia have the right to nominate presidential candidates: the Unite Abkhazia Party, the Abkhazian Forum of National Unity Party, the Abkhazia Economic Development Party and the People’s Party.
Presidential elections will be held in Abkhazia on December 12.
