The Leadership of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Abkhazia Holds Meeting with the Younger Generation of Compatriots from Syria

SUKHUM -- The Leadership of the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia has held meeting with the younger generation of compatriots from Syria who returned to their historic homeland. Organization of language courses, employment assistance, access to secondary and higher education and other issues which concern the repatriates.

During the welcoming speech the Foreign Minister of Abkhazia Viacheslav Chirikba said: “We are following the situation in Syria with great concern. We worry about our compatriots and the whole Syrian people. We hope that this hard period in the life of the people of Syria will be over and that peace and stability will be established in the country. We want you too feel that you have returned home, to your homeland.

We are glad that you have immediately started to take efforts on integrating into the Abkhaz society”

The participants of the meeting inquired about the process of repatriation from Syria, because all of them have relatives and friends in the zone of the conflict. The Head of the Turkey and Middle East Department Inar Gitsba commented in this regard: “The process of repatriation is continuing. For the last two days we have received 126 applications for return to Abkhazia. We are working on the required documents which will enable our brothers from Syria to get Russian transit visas. I would like to note that the Embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia to the Russian Federation is actively assisting to solve organizational problems, related to the transit of the repatriates through the Russian territory”.

All those present at the event stressed the importance of such meetings.
