SUKHUM -- The President has received volunteers from North Ossetia and the Chechen Republic who had taken part in the 1992-1993 Patriotic war of the people of Abkhazia.
They had arrived in Abkhazia on the eve of the Independence and Victory holiday which was marked on September 30.
The hero of Abkhazia Alkhazur Suleymanov who had settled down in Abkhazia after the war, introduced a new Chairman of the Union of the Chechen volunteers Gelani Habibulayev and the Chairman of the Union of veterans of North Ossetia Sergey Dudiev to the President.
‘Thank you for what you’ve done to our nation by defending it during the Georgian aggression’, Raul Hadzhimba said, welcoming the guests. ’God help for the events of 22 years ago to be the worst in the history of the Caucasus. We’ll never forget what our brothers who were not indifferent to the destiny of Abkhazia have done. And we have to bring up younger generation on these valorous examples’.
According to Hadzhimba, the attitude to volunteers, whatever republic they were from, is the most cordial, and it has to be preserved and multiplied. ‘Without your powerful support, it would be hardly possible to win the war’, the President noted.
Alkhazur Suleymanov expressed gratitude to the President for finding time to meet with the Chechen and Ossetian volunteers. ‘We want to be a support to Abkhazia not only during wartime, but also in peacetime and we want to participate in building up the state which we have fallen in love with’, he said.
In this regard Raul Khadzhimba emphasized that the people who had taken part in defending Abkhazia had to participate in building up the state. ‘We’ll do everything for the volunteers not to stay out of the processes taking place in Abkhazia’, Raul Hadzhimba said.
