President Sergey Bagapsh Held Working Meeting on Archives
SUKHUM -- The President of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh held a working meeting where the situation with the republic’s archives was discussed. The First Vice Prime Minister Leonid Lakerbaya, the Vice Prime Minister Alexander Stranichkin, heads of district and the city of Sukhum administrations as well as heads of the central, district and military Archives took part in the meeting.
The Head of the State said that our archives’ working conditions are not up to the standards required for documents custody. “Taking into account the archives’ significance for the history of any country, we should bring those establishments to appropriate condition”, the President said.
The director of the State Central Archives Roman Gvindzhiya told about the situation with the main storehouse of the country. He mentioned that employees of the establishment headed by him engage in restoring the archives burnt by the Georgian invaders during the Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia. “Certainly, it’s impossible to fully restore the lost documents, but we won’t stop working in this direction”, Gvindzhiya emphasized. He told about today's condition of archives, documents custody conditions. The director drew special attention to the necessity of training and retraining personnel. The President said the state is ready to render assistance in this matter.
The Head of the State was briefed on the situation with the district archives and the main archives of the Defense Ministry of Abkhazia. The President charged to prepare in the shortest possible time offers to bring the condition of the country’s archives up to the existing standards.
