Abkhazia marks 17th anniversary of liberation of Sukhum
SUKHUM -- Today Abkhazia marks the 17th anniversary of liberation of Sukhum from the State Council of Georgia's troops.
The leadership of the republic, representatives of public organizations, veterans of the Patriotic War of the Abkhaz Nation, pupils of city schools laid flowers and wreaths to the Glory Memorial.
The operation on liberation of Sukhum from the State Council of Georgia's troops has lasted for 11 days. The then Minister of Defense Maj.-Gen. Sultan Sosnaliev and the Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces of Abkhazia Maj.-Gen. Sergey Dbar were at the head of it. In the afternoon on September, 27, 1993 the Gumista front troops, crushing the enemy opposition, overwhelmed the defense and liberated Sukhum.
